AKC Emerging Film-maker Awards
In 2017 AKC sponsored 2 Emerging Film-maker Awards as part of the Broken Hill Perfect Light Film Festival on the subject of “Connecting with a Friend”.
The winner of the Individual Emerging Film-maker Award was (Not) Alone directed by Mollie Nelson-Williams.
“As a young, emerging artist and performer, I have really valued the support I have received from the Perfect Light Film Festival and Artists for Kids’ Culture foundation. My debut short film “(Not) Alone” was an exciting and challenging project that allowed me to explore creating art through a medium I am not incredibly familiar with, and I am honoured that it was received so well at the Festival in 2017. Since winning the Emerging Filmmaker award, I have begun training at the Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts (WAAPA), completing a Bachelor of Performing Arts majoring in Performance Making, where I hope to develop further as a theatre maker, director and performer. My experience as a director, filmmaker and producer prior to the production of my short film was quite minimal, but here I learnt how to guide and encourage performers to recreate the vision I had for the project. This introduction to directing encouraged me to explore options to develop further as a director and theatre maker, and I am excited to be guided and supported at WAAPA in realising and developing my skills in this area.”
